Overview of Speciality course in Ayurveda Basic Dietetics

  • The course aims to enhance knowledge, skills and core competencies of Ayurveda Practitioners to address case management and prevention of different Diseases through Ayurveda Clinical Dietetics.
  • The course is meant for those Ayurveda practitioners who are interested in learning Ayurveda Perspective of Dietetics for Disease care and Preventive Health care.

Three Course Modules of Ayurveda Basic Dietetics

All Three modules may need 45 – 52 session each of 90 minute.

Course In Basic Ayurveda Dietetics

Learning Objectives:

  • Importance of Ayurveda Principles in designing the specific diet for specific individual in specific conditions.
  • Understand the effect of food on human body by knowing the properties of food
  • Learn to plan the balance meal with balancing the different properties

Topics Covered:

  • Concept of Rasa (Tastes)
    1. Details of Six Tastes
    2. Six taste and Five Elements Theory
    3. Functions of six tastes
    4. Influence of Rasa on Doshas
    5. Pharmacological and Psychological Actions of the Six Tastes
    6. Commonly consumed substances of all six tastes
    7. Effects of excessive use of six tastes
    8. Psychological Effects of six tastes
  • Concept of Virya or Potency of the food
    1. Hot and Cold Virya
    2. Functions and Effects of Virya
    3. Relation between Rasa and Virya
  • Concept of Vipaka ( Post digestive Effect)
    1. Effect of Rasa and Vipaka on the Doshas
    2. Details of Sweet, Sour and Pungent Vipaka
  • Concept of Prabhava (Unique or Specific action)

Total Academic Time – 8 to 10 sessions each of 90 minutes

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about Concept of Healthy and unhealthy food.
  • Understanding the role of food in developing the Pathogenesis of disease

Topics Covered:

  • Eight Principles of consumption of food Rituals of Consumption of food
  • Concept of Incompatible or Opposite food combinations
  • Concept of Satmya (Wholesome), Asatmya (unwholesome) and Oaksatmya

Total Academic Time –– 4 to 6 sessions each of 90 minutes

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn to diagnose different abnormalities at different stages of Digestion, Metabolism and Nutrition.
  • Diagnosis of different clinical conditions originating by abnormalities in Ama
  • Management of abnormalities with food and regimens

Topics Covered:

  • Different stages of Digestion, Metabolism and Nutrition in Ayurveda
  • Concept of Ama
  • Dosha influencing Ama and Ama influencing dosha
